Viviamo un’epoca in cui le immagini sono il nostro pane quotidiano, veniamo bombardati quotidianamente da stimoli visivi di qualsiasi tipo e a nostra volta produciamo enormi quantità di fotografie incalzati dall’uso dei social network. Abbiamo costantemente il telefono in mano, l’accesso rapido alla fotocamera e uno spiccato talento al fotogiornalismo: potessimo immortalare il riflesso di un granello di polvere sulla superficie riflettente del nostro nuovo televisore TV LED Ultra HD 4K 80″, le nostre Instagram stories diventerebbero molto più interessanti.

Siamo tutti universalmente e profondamente attratti dalle fotografie, ma perché ci piace così tanto scattarle, guardarle e anche conservarle? La risposta è semplice, la fotografia è un potente mezzo espressivo che ci permette, attraverso un linguaggio simbolico, di esprimere quello che non si può dire a parole, e riesce a stimolare emozioni e comportamenti di cui spesso non siamo consapevoli.
In concreto che vuol dire? (Ve lo state chiedendo vero?) Ve lo spiego subito facendo degli esempi:
Non vi viene mai voglia di sfogliare l’album di famiglia o riguardare foto di voi stessi quando eravate piccoli? Oltre alla vergogna per aver indossato un paio di sandali con i calzini bianchi fino alle ginocchia, avete fatto caso a quanti ricordi emergono insieme alle emozioni del momento?
Quanti piccoli particolari che magari sono passati inosservati ai vostri occhi per tanto tempo e che oggi colpiscono la vostra attenzione, suscitando riflessioni, sorrisi, lacrime, emozioni? Ecco, questo è il potere delle immagini: suscitare in chi le guarda reazioni emotive differenti e magari anche pensieri e riflessioni.
Se poi tutto questo vi facesse tornare in mente di quella volta in cui siete andati ad una mostra di fotografia o di pittura insieme al vostro amico di sempre e avete discusso ore sul significato di una foto senza arrivare mai ad un punto di accordo, sappiate che anche questo è il potere delle immagini: ognuno di noi proietta su di essa tutta una serie di significati, emozioni, pensieri e riflessioni che pescano nel mare delle nostre conoscenze ed esperienze (ed ognuno ha le sue) che per la maggior parte sono diverse da tutti gli altri.
Oppure provate a pensare quando insieme agli amici decidete di scattarvi un “selfie”, cosa succede appena la fotografia è pronta? C’è chi con ansia vuole vedere immediatamente lo scatto per poi commentare “Oddio come sono venuto male”, anche se in realtà è l’unico fotogenico del gruppo e spera semplicemente di sentirsi dire “ma che dici, sei venuto benissimo” (Maledetto bisogno di approvazione!); poi c’è il timido introverso, che avrebbe voluto nascondersi dietro il testone di quello davanti, che lancia uno sguardo fugace all’istantanea implorando la cancellazione immediata (Maledetta insicurezza!); c’è chi non è interessato perché tanto sa già che “è venuto male” ( il passivo pessimista!), chi con sorriso soddisfatto urla “pubblicala pubblicala” ( un narcisista c’è sempre!); e poi ci sono loro, i bambini, che senza malizia e strutture mentali si guardano curiosi e felici di riconoscersi.
Anche in questo caso, le reazioni di ognuno di noi sono estremamente soggettive, perché sono strettamente collegate con l’immagine mentale interna che abbiamo di noi stessi, ovvero con il modo in cui ci vediamo ma soprattutto con il modo in cui vogliamo essere visti dagli altri ( Il sig. Moscarda di Pirandello, vi dice niente a riguardo?). Come ognuno di noi crea la propria immagine di se stesso nella sua testa, è un processo abbastanza complesso e articolato. Per chi non ne avesse già abbastanza per oggi, mosso da un filo di curiosità, trova una ricca semplificazione qua.
